Rescue, Rehabilitate, Rehome
Forgotten Horses Ireland is an equine rescue centre, with our aim to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome horses and ponies. The horses in our care come from a number of different situations. Some are abandoned or feral, some are seized by authorities as part of neglect and cruelty cases, and some are taken by us from equine pounds where they face a certain death sentence if they do not find a rescue space.
Forgotten Horses Ireland is an entirely volunteer run and registered charity organisation that is committed to the care and welfare of horses in need. The group was formed in County Galway in March 2012. Since then Forgotten Horses has saved hundreds of horses from cruelty, neglect and in some cases certain death.

How can I help?
We are always looking for new volunteers and helpers. Please see our volunteer page for more information. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times. Children aged 16-18 must have written consent from parent/guardian and prior experience with horses. As we are a completely volunteer run charity, we also appreciate any financial donations. How are you funded?
The majority of our running costs come from donations and fundraising. We are especially grateful to the Department of Agriculture, from whom we receive a grant annually. In 2023, we received €20,775, which will contribute directly to our 2024 running costs. We also very much appreciate all our donations from members of the public.

Can I sponsor a horse?
Yes! If you are not in a position to adopt or foster a horse, but would like to sponsor a particular horse, we currently offer sponsorship opportunities. Please see the sponsorship page for more details.
Where are you based?
We are based in South Galway. Visits to our centre are strictly by appointment only.
